FAQ
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
FLIGHT DURATIONS
Our tandem paragliding flights typically last around 15 minutes, depending on the weather, wind, and thermal conditions. Nature is always in charge, so flight times may occasionally be a little longer or shorter. We believe this is the perfect duration, especially for first-time flyers, providing plenty of time to relax, enjoy the sensation of free flight, and admire Madeira's spectacular coastline, mountains, and breathtaking landscapes from above. The entire experience takes approximately one hour, including meeting at the designated meeting point, the transfer to the take-off site, equipment preparation, a full safety briefing, your tandem paragliding flight, landing, packing the equipment, and a friendly farewell. From start to finish, our experienced team ensures a safe, enjoyable, and unforgettable adventure with EpicGlide Madeira Paragliding.
AGE REQUIREMENTS
Tandem paragliding flights are available for passengers aged 12 and over.Passengers over 65 years of age are welcome to fly, provided they are in good physical condition and weather conditions are suitable for a safe flight. Final approval is at the pilot's discretion, based on safety considerations.
WEIGHT LIMITS
Our standard weight limit is 90 kg (198 lbs) for men and 75 kg (165 lbs) for women.Passengers weighing over 85 kg (187 lbs) for men or 70 kg (154 lbs) for women should be in good physical condition, as additional fitness may be required for a safe take-off and landing. Eligibility also depends on factors such as age, overall fitness, and weight distribution. In some cases, we may be able to accommodate passengers who are slightly above these limits, particularly if they are young, fit, and weather conditions are favourable. Please contact us in advance to discuss your eligibility.Weight is an important factor in paragliding. Heavier passengers require a faster take-off and landing speed. During take-off, both the pilot and passenger must run down a gentle slope for approximately 20 metres (65 feet). For this reason, passengers should be able to run confidently and maintain good balance throughout the take-off, especially if they are close to the maximum weight limit. For safety reasons, the final decision to fly always rests with the pilot and depends on the passenger's physical condition and the weather conditions on the day of the flight.
COULD I LOSE MY SUNGLASSES DURING THE FLIGHT
While there is always a small possibility, we have never had a passenger lose their glasses during any of our flights.
WHEN SHOULD I BOOK
We recommend booking your flight at least one week in advance. To avoid disappointment, we also advise against scheduling your flight for the last day of your holiday, as adverse weather conditions may prevent us from rescheduling your experience.Booking in advance allows us to select the most suitable flight time based on the weather forecast and, when required, arrange for additional experienced pilots so that couples, families, and groups can enjoy their flights together.
CAN I USE MY OWN GOPRO OR ACTION CAMERA DURING THE FLIGHT?
Yes, you are welcome to bring and use your own GoPro or other action camera to capture your paragliding experience. For the best experience, we recommend using a short extension pole or a wrist strap for added safety and convenience.Chest mounts are not permitted, as they may interfere with the paragliding harness, and helmet mounts are prohibited for safety reasons. Large DSLR cameras are also not recommended, as they are impractical to use during the flight. Please note that EPIC GLIDE cannot accept responsibility for any loss, damage, or malfunction of your personal equipment. For safety reasons, selfie sticks used with mobile phones are not permitted, as there is a risk of dropping the device during the flight.
VIDEO AND PICTURES
If you choose the Action Camera add-on and it fails to record your flight due to a technical issue, the full cost of the add-on will be refunded. For your convenience, we provide a transparent protective pouch so you can securely carry your mobile device during the flight. While every effort is made to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, EPIC GLIDE cannot accept responsibility for any loss, damage, or malfunction of your personal device.
WILL I EXPERIENCE VERTIGO?
Will I experience vertigo?Experiencing vertigo during a tandem paragliding flight is very uncommon. Unlike standing on the edge of a cliff or looking down from a tall building, paragliding provides a smooth and stable sensation once you are airborne. Most passengers are surprised by how comfortable and relaxing the flight feels. If you have a medical condition that causes recurrent vertigo or balance problems, we recommend consulting your doctor before booking your flight.
